Cows are amongst the gentlest of breathing creatures;
none show more passionate tenderness to their
young when deprived of them; and, in short,
I am not ashamed to profess a deep
love for these quiet creatures.

Do not free the camel of the burden of his hump;
you may be freeing him from being a camel.

 Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride,
Friendship without envy,
Or beauty without vanity?
Here, where grace is served with muscle
And strength by gentleness confined
He serves without servility; he has fought without enmity.
There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent.
There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.

All goats are mischievous thieves, gate-crashers,

character, intelligence, and capacity for affection
which can only be matched by the dog.

I do not think the cat can be over-estimated.
He suggests so much grace, power, beauty, motion, mysticism.
I do not wonder that many writers love cats;
I am only surprised that all do not.

  6. Hi,

    Your blogs are study material and inspiration for me. I tried searching the older blogs but could not find them anymore. Are those not available anymore ?

  7. In this time of disturbing indecency in our U.S.A. it is beneficial to be able to take the time to enjoy decent reflections prompted by these scenes and words of wisdom.
    Thank you!

  8. Reblogged this on Life is But This and commented:
    I must share Steve’s photos. They never fail to lift my spirit, If only I have his eyes (and maybe his cameras). The quotes he inserts into his photo journals show such insight.

  9. Dearest Steve, you know how to stir our inner soul, with your eyes and your quotes. Bless you always for what you do….

  10. Simply outstanding photographs again, Stevebhai. Thank you so much. I love all of them but most of all the following : The one of the goat in the little girl’s lap in West Bengal, the one of the woman meditating by the river with the 3 dogs and the one of the camel and the old man sitting on the bed with the two little boys.
    A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it.

  11. As usual dearest Steve McCurry , you have taken God’s beauty and displayed it as you see it and others can admire and appreciate your same vision . I live in Oxford, Mississippi and also wanted to comment on the wonderful images you included in Mr. Theroux’s book about our Deep South. You capture the heart and soul of every person , place or thing you see through your lens . I just keep trying to perfect my skills to reflect my passion for the beauty in this world we do see each day . Each night we must count our blessings for the blessings bestowed upon us in life magical or curiously unique and compare them to the common evils in which we have become accustomed . There is only so far evil can take our minds before we just shut it out and become numb . Nonetheless, the magic and brilliance of our beautiful world seizes to amaze each and ever day . That will always be the triumph of good over evil and our hope in the scheme of life . I hope that you will not mind if I share your blog post with others by reposting your photo album on my website . I love to share your collections . My readers love to see each new collection you have completed . God bless you for you are a Great Creature !

  12. James Herriot used this quote for one of his books. I always enjoyed his stories and learned much. Your photographs coupled with beautiful quotes stir my soul. Well done!
