It is not until much later, as the skin sags and
the heart weakens, that children understand;
their stories, and all their accomplishments,
sit atop the stories of their mothers and fathers,
stones upon stones, beneath the waters of their lives.
– Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Generations pass like leaves fall from our family tree. Each season new life blossoms and grows benefiting from the strength and experience of those who went before.

The fruits of your labors may be reaped two generations from now. Trust, even when you don’t see the results.
– Henri Nouwen

In truth a family is what you make it. It is made strong, not by number of heads counted at the dinner table, but by the rituals you help family members create, by the memories you share, by the commitment of time, caring, and love you show to one another, and by the hopes for the future you have as individuals and as a unit.

Beautiful, powerful images!
44 years ago when I asked you to take our wedding photos you said you had never taken wedding photos and I answered …well some day you will be famous and I will say “my best friend Steve McCurry took my wedding photos” he is the best. Thanks again Steve!

Can we see some of the photos?
I’ll see what I can do!! It would probably be easier for my old friend to post them 🙂
Absolutely wonderful!
Amazing photo set as always. I’m a big fan since 2007 when I first learnt photography. I recently traveled to Dong Van and had a chance to visit Pho Cao Tribal Market. It’s very nice to me. I don’t know if you have time to take a look at it or not. But if you do, please let me know what you think. It would be my greatest pleasure if you can.

I wish you a great year ahead and I hope to see you in Vietnam one day.

Thank you.

Wow what a great set of photos love it thank you!!
Thank you for these lovely pictures reminding us of our bonds to family.
Fantastic! My favorite is the photo of the child on top of the kindling pile, with the adult’s finger looped protectively over the boy’s hand, even as the stabilize the strap … extra protection against sliding off … So much care in it! 🙂
I like the photo of the family riding in the corn wagon – reminds me of family long ago.
Like always, you captured such a tenderness that in today’s world, we may be losing. Many thanks for your excellent photos Steve.

Excellent Sir..🙏
Non ci sono parole per dire quanto sono fantastiche queste immagini, troppo belle.
Immagini di vita vera, di fatica, di luoghi che non tutti possono o riescono a visitare.
Grazie per la condivisione con noi.
Un grande saluto, Patrizia
