Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not… nothing is more common than unsuccessful people will talent. Genius will not… unrewarded genius is almost legendary. Education will not…. the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

The mother and daughter in Beirut, Lebanon speak to me most today.

On one hand, I am immediately thankful for the safety I live in.

On the other hand, I am in awe of her strength and resilience: The normalcy of preparing potatoes in the face of uncertainty while caring for her child makes me want to tackle my struggles with more gumption than I am.
