A landscape might be denuded, a human settlement abandoned or lost, but always, just beneath the ground lies history of preposterous grandeur. They are everywhere, these individuals of undaunted humankind, irrepressibly optimistic and proud.
– The Carpet Wars, Christopher Kremmer

Yet even at their most turbulent, the Afghans have tended to impress travellers with their dignity and hospitality
as much as their fierce independence.
– William Dalrymple, author of
Return of a King: The Battle for Afghanistan 1839–42

In Afghanistan, you don’t understand yourself
solely as an individual.
You understand yourself as a son, a brother, a
cousin to somebody, an uncle to somebody.
You are part of something bigger than yourself.
– Khaled Hosseini

Long live AFGHANISTAN ♥️
Steve McCurry the finest humanitarian photographer ever. Your work is flawless and makes you feel each images to your core a gift like no one else. I dream to see one of your exhibs live some day. Thanks for sharing your world with us
My heart goes out to these amazing people. It is wonderful to have someone like you document them so well.
Portraits Full of Soul!
Wow! It’s the only word that came out of my mouth! Great as usual Maestro!
Beautiful.
Whoa! What I saw was inner beauty and spirit in all of them. Moving!
Beautiful work! Soul portraits
These are brilliant photographs, and also one of the saddest things I have seen recently. Here are these beautiful people who mean nobody any harm, and they have to live in a country torn by warring factions, invading armies, and suppressed by an overbearing religion. Most of them would be desperately poor, many of them were dirty, but all of them had a spark of hope and humanity. Well done in capturing all that.
Amazing pics!
Nice pictures Steve. I love you baby
Their eyes are very direct
Dickensian….

Breathtaking
As usual …a wonderful group of images. Getting around the gallery seemed like I had been over-served at the wine bar. Especially the image of the Taj ! I hope I will not have a virtual Paris hangover.
you always show your love and their humanity
Genial como siempre. Gran maestro de la fotografia. Sus retratos són tan próximos y sinceros que hacen estremecer al observador. Me ha sorprendido la gran diversidad física de los afganesos. ¡Grácias señor McCurry!
Stunning portraits, Steve!
