The Light of Faith

I have seen many manifestations of faith during my travels over the past three decades.
Some have been spontaneous, some have been part of a liturgy,
some have been prescribed rituals,
Some have been in magnificent buildings, others have been outside under a tree.
Many people’s faith is embedded in the way they live their lives.
– Steve McCurry

Lourdes, France

Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.
– Corrie Ten Boom

Djenne, Mali

Each blade of grass has its spot on earth whence it draws its life, its strength;
and so is man rooted to the land from which he draws his faith together with his life.
– Joseph Conrad

Faith is a bird that feels dawn breaking and sings while it is still dark.

What is Faith?
When your good deed pleases you and your evil deed grieves you,
you are a believer.
– Prophet Muhammad

… All I know is that prayer constructs a velvet bridge
And walking it we are aloft, as on a springboard,
Above landscapes the color of ripe gold
Transformed by a magic stopping of the sun.
– Czeslaw Milosz

Karnataka, India

Faith is the sense of life, that sense by virtue of which man does not destroy himself, but continues to live on.
It is the force whereby we live.
– Leo Tolstoy

To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary.
To one without faith, no explanation is possible.
– St. Thomas Aquinas

Faith is the art of holding on to things your reason has once
accepted in spite of your changing moods.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.
– Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kandahar, Afghanistan

If it can be verified, we don’t need faith…
Faith is for that which lies on the other side of reason.
Faith is what makes life bearable, with all its tragedies and
ambiguities and sudden, startling joys.

Très touchantes photos, despite faith can be a double-edged sword as we all know….

    • Jitu Jhaveri says:

Pierre, thanks for sharing your thought. Questions I have are, who makes it a double edged sword? If we will respect each other’s faith truly then we will respect each other without making our own faith is the right or correct one!

I had to share this. It speaks to me in ways that few posts have. Extraordinary gifts from this photographer, with finely wrought words shared like lights in gloom, amid our struggles of living in this world. Read and look and be favored by a faith journey taken.

  40. This is my very favorite of your blog posts (which I have seen thus far). I admire and appreciate all these photographs, and the quotes you chose are finely attuned and from extraordinary thinkers and doers. I wish I might have this to put in my hands so I could read it at will, any time, any day or night. Like your own prayer journey yet we can be there, too. Thank you for putting it out here.
